Apron Light Parade Update

With no possibility for our annual event to take place this January, Apron have reimagined a way for the community to come together by sharing lights and messages from the safety of their own homes. Inspired by the rainbows we displayed in our windows during the last national lockdown, Apron are inviting the community to display a light or lantern in their window. We have created paper-cut artworks which when put in a window allow light to shine through.

A homemade lantern can be as simple as a tea light in a jam jar, or as elaborate as people want to make them. Or, it could be a picture. The idea is that anyone can make one, put it in their window and shine a light to their neighbours as a signal of kindness and hope for better times ahead.

We have spent the last few months thinking about what we could do for the event this year and this feels like the safest and most accessible way for people to do something collectively.

People can share their lantern by posting a picture of it on Facebook and Instagram, using the hashtag #shorehamlightparade and creating an online gallery inspiring more people to get involved. Apron hope this will be a way for our communities to connect with each other in a creative and supportive way, as we all navigate this difficult and unsettling time.

The Parade would normally have taken place on the third Saturday in January. This year we are inviting  people to make and display their lights and lanterns anytime from mid January until the end of February and shine a light through the winter darkness.

Anyone can take part, even if they live outside of Shoreham.
